In February of 2022, KY Tracking initiated a mini grant opportunity in which local health departments could apply for funding to focus efforts on public health needs within their communities.
KY Tracking would like to highlight North Central District Health Department's (NCDHD) heat-related illness project mini-grant project. NCDHD utilized funding to explore syndromic surveillance data for trends of heat related illness emergency department visits in residents of Henry, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties. The collected data was then used to promote outreach to the public about the risks of prolonged heat exposure.
This summer, NCDHD was at a Shelby Energy Cooperative event at the Henry County Fairgrounds to spread awareness to the public about heat related illness and how to protect themselves and their families. NCDHD has also used grant funding to purchase 400 air conditioning units to be distributed among the local health departments and several local community partners.
